ANTI-CANCER DRUG GIVEN TO PATIENT FOR FIRST TIME.(Living)

Physicians administered an experimental anti-cancer drug to a human patient for the first time Monday to see if it will prove as useful as laboratory tests indicate.

The drug, fostriecin, has been found effective in combating human cancer cells in culture and animals. Researchers said it has been particularly effective against cultured cells from human lung, breast and colon cancers.
